WPP has officially announced that its long-serving CEO, Mark Read, will retire at the end of 2025. Read, who has been with the global advertising and communications group for more than three decades, will step down from his role and the company’s board on December 31, 2025. A search for his successor is currently underway.
WPP Chair Philip Jansen acknowledged Read’s monumental contribution to the company, stating that his leadership helped shape WPP into a modern marketing powerhouse. Under Read’s tenure, WPP has built advanced capabilities in artificial intelligence, data, and technology, alongside strengthening its creative and global presence.
Mark Read took on the CEO role in 2018 during a transformative period for the company. Reflecting on his time, Read noted that his goal was to streamline and strengthen WPP while reigniting creativity and performance with the support of cutting-edge technology. Today, he says, the company is thriving, with top-tier client relationships and continued creative recognition, including being named Creative Company of the Year at Cannes Lions.
He also highlighted the success of WPP Open, the company’s AI-powered marketing platform, which launched fully this year. With strong leadership, a global footprint, and a solid financial foundation, Read believes WPP is well positioned for future growth.
