The Editors Guild of India has announced a new leadership team for the 2025 to 2026 term, with Sanjay Kapoor Editors Guild President at the head of an unopposed panel. The outcome reflects a consensus driven process, with only one set of nominations filed for the key positions.
According to an official communication from the Guild’s election committee, the process concluded on 19 November 2025. No other nominations were received beyond those of the eventual office bearers, making polling unnecessary. The panel was therefore declared elected unopposed and uncontested.
The new leadership includes Kapoor as president, whose nomination was proposed by Monu Nalpat and seconded by Seema Mustafa. Raghavan Srinivasan has been chosen as general secretary, with Bharat Bhushan as proposer and Siddharth Vardarajan as seconder.
The treasurer’s role goes to Teresa Rehman, whose nomination was proposed by Suresh Bafna and seconded by Kumkum Chadha. Together, the three form the core elected leadership of the Editors Guild for the coming term.
The announcement was signed by Rajdeep Sardesai, convener of the election committee, and member Vijay Naik. In their note, they confirmed that the absence of rival candidates meant a formal vote was not required and extended best wishes to the incoming team.

The Editors Guild of India is one of the country’s most visible media bodies, often issuing statements on press freedom, ethical standards and major media related developments. Its office bearers routinely engage with governments, regulators and industry stakeholders on issues concerning journalism and newsrooms.
The unopposed election suggests a degree of alignment among members around the panel’s composition. It also indicates confidence in the incoming leadership’s ability to represent the Guild at a time when the media environment is facing both commercial and editorial pressures.
With Kapoor as president and Srinivasan and Rehman in key roles, the Guild’s new team steps into office at a moment of intense debate over news credibility, economic viability and the safety of journalists. While the announcement focuses on the outcome rather than specific priorities, the combination of experience within the panel is likely to shape how the Guild responds to these challenges.
The committee’s message closes with a straightforward endorsement of the elected office bearers, framing the result as the start of a new term for the organisation rather than a contested shift. How the team balances advocacy, dialogue and internal consensus building will be closely watched by editors, reporters and media observers across the country.
